Huelva is home to a handful of amazing beaches near Seville, all boasting gorgeous golden sands.
Each beach in Huelva, from the lively Playa Caño Guerrero in Matalascañas to the serene stretches of Punta Umbria, offers a unique seaside experience.
Playa Caño Guerrero & Matalascañas
Best for: Soft white sand
Drive time: 1 hour 20 minutes
Playa Caño Guerrero, located in the charming Spanish coastal town of Matalascañas, is a delightful destination for beach lovers.
Renowned for its golden sands and serene ambiance, I think this beach near Seville offers a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Enjoy a leisurely stroll along the extensive coastline, top up your tan with some sunbathing, or partake in various water sports.
Matalascañas itself is a lively place with ample amenities, making it an ideal destination for both relaxation and adventure.
I should mention that there are a number of not-so-pretty high-rise buildings in Matalascañas, so it’s not the most beautiful beach town.
But I can assure you that the beaches in the area more than make up for it!
El Portil
Best for: Surrounding natural beauty
Drive time: 1 hour 20 minutes
El Portil is a picturesque beach known for its surrounding natural beauty and tranquil atmosphere.
Situated a mere stone’s throw from the Laguna de El Portil Natural Park, nature lovers are in for a treat.
Nestled along the coast in the Costa de la Luz, it’s a haven for those seeking peace and quiet.
The beach’s fine sand and clear waters make an ideal spot for swimming and sunbathing.
Note that this beach is actually between two municipalities, Punta Umbría and Cartaya, so is sometimes known as Nuevo Portil.
Surrounded by lush pine forests El Portil is not just a beach occupies a gorgeous setting.
Punta Umbría

A fishing village on the banks of the Rio Odiel river, Punta Umbría is another of the best beaches near Seville. It’s a popular destination among both locals and tourists.

I love the wide array of beachside hospitality options on offer here. It makes it the perfect spot for anyone looking to enjoy a taste of the local cuisine while soaking up the sunshine.
This beach is also well-equipped for various activities, making it a wonderful family-friendly destination.
Playa Islantilla
Best for: Watersports
Drive time: 1 hour 30 minutes
A beautiful beach with golden sands, Playa Islantilla boasts a wonderful blend of natural beauty and modern amenities.
What I love about this beach is its excellent facilities. These include showers, sunbeds, and lifeguards, ensuring a comfortable and safe experience for all visitors.
If you have any daredevils in your group, this is the beach for them! Whether you prefer a jet ski ride or a banana boat ride, you can find enticing water sports from various providers.
The nearby promenade offers a variety of shops, cafés, and restaurants, catering to all tastes and preferences.
I especially recommend trying out some traditional Andalusian dishes incorporating fish.

If there are any history buffs among us, I really recommend Playa de Camposoto as this beach actually features two bunkers from the Spanish Civil War.
La Fontanilla

La Fontanilla, located near the charming town of Conil de la Frontera, is a popular beach known for its lively atmosphere and pretty scenery.
It’s an ideal destination for families and groups of friends, offering a variety of beachside activities and water sports such as jet skiing.
Along the promenade, you’ll find Andalusian restaurants and cafés, where I suggest savouring the local cuisine while enjoying the breathtaking sea views.
Playa El Palmar
Best for: Surfers
Drive time: 1 hour 50 minutes
With clear open waters, Playa de El Palmar is renowned for its vast expanse of unspoiled sandy beach, making it a favourite among both locals and tourists.
This beach has become a haven for surfers, thanks to its consistent waves and surfing schools catering to all levels.
I love the laid-back vibe at this beach, along with the spectacular sunsets – making a perfect spot for those seeking a blend of adventure and relaxation.
The great thing about this beach is that its length ensures that it never feels overcrowded, offering a peaceful seaside experience.
Los Caños de Meca
Best for: Hidden coves
Drive time: 1 hour 50 minutes
Los Caños de Meca is a unique beach destination known for its bohemian spirit and natural wonders.
The beaches here are famous for their dramatic cliffs, pine forests, and the historic Trafalgar lighthouse – where off this point, the Battle of Trafalgar was fought in 1805.
I think that the wonderful clear blue waters and hidden coves make this an excellent spot for snorkelling and exploring marine life.
Los Caños de Meca also has a vibrant nightlife with several beach bars and clubs, making it a popular spot for younger crowds and anyone who enjoys evening beach parties.
Cala Del Aceite
Best for: Dramatic cliffs

Cala Del Aceite is a secluded cove located near Conil de la Frontera, offering a retreat from the more crowded beaches in Cádiz.
This picturesque cove is surrounded by cliffs and pine trees, which I think creates a lovely, intimate atmosphere.
The cove’s beauty lies in its natural, unspoiled character, providing a wonderful backdrop for relaxation, swimming and sunbathing.
The towering cliffs protect this beach from much of the wind, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a popular windsurfing spot.
Playa de los Alemanes
Best for: Hidden gem
Drive time: 2 hours
Renowned for its exclusivity and stunning natural scenery, Playa de los Alemanes is situated near Zahara de los Atunes.
Lounge on the fine golden sand, take a dip in the clear blue waters, and admire the backdrop of rolling hills. I’d suggest this as an ideal spot for those seeking a bit of privacy.
The untouched beauty of this beach makes it a true hidden gem within the Cádiz coastline.
Playa de Bolonia
Best for: Roman ruins

Playa de Bolonia is not just a beach; it’s a historical marvel.
Located near the ancient Roman ruins of Baelo Claudia, I think that this beach offers a truly unique combination of cultural heritage and natural splendour.
Also located within a protected natural park area – Parque Natural del Estrecho – the beach remains untouched by development to preserve its unique heritage for future generations.
Known for its vast dune system, crystal waters, and fine white sand, Bolonia is a favourite among both history enthusiasts and nature lovers.
The beach is also popular for windsurfing and kitesurfing, thanks to the often favourable wind conditions.
Playa de Tarifa
Best for: Windsurfing
Drive time: 2 hours 20 minutes
In the windsurfing capital of Europe, Playa de Tarifa is a paradise for water sports enthusiasts.
Known for its strong winds, this beach has become a world-famous spot for windsurfing and kitesurfing – for both professionals and amateurs.

While the vibrant town of Tarifa provides a lively atmosphere with its numerous bars, restaurants, and shops.
I love that this spot perfectly blends dynamic water sports and a lively beach culture.
