Welcome to Pocket Wanderings, a travel and lifestyle blog by Jessie Moore. My aim is to create an online space that is empowering, helpful and informative. From travel guides to wellbeing advice, I cover topics that I hope will be useful to someone.
First and foremost, I love travel and adventure. Through my travel guides and tips, I aim to inspire your next trip and offer useful and interesting perspectives. As a young woman who often travels solo, I want to inspire other women (and men) to do the same, with confidence. In this world of offices and underground trains, I think we could all do with a little more adventure in our lives.
My other passion in life is food. I have a remarkably large appetite for such a pocket-sized person. Nothing beats a fantastic meal out – until you hit the inevitable food coma stage – and I love discovering amazing new places to eat at. You’ll also see the occasional recipe, as I love to cook too. Although finding the time to create, make and shoot new recipes is an ongoing battle!
When did you start your blog?
I started blogging way back in 2015. It started as a way of talking about my travels in Tanzania when I climbed Mt Kilimanjaro. Sadly I had to be an adult and get a job so the travel tales started to dwindle and the lifestyle side evolved from there. For a few years, I dipped in and out of my blog, only writing when I felt a wave of inspiration. But now that I have a little more time to spend on it, creating content has become a regular part of my day-to-day.
What do you do for a living?
My main job is as a freelance SEO Consultant. When I left university, I started out in PR, working for a big agency in London. I survived about 10 months before quitting my job with no real plan of action – I just knew that I didn’t want to do PR! I eventually fell into marketing and accidentally ended up specialising in SEO. It turned out to be the perfect job for me – an ideal blend of nerdy analytical stuff with the more creative aspect of content creation.
After a couple of years as Head of SEO at a London digital agency, I took the plunge and went freelance in June 2019. I now work with leisure and lifestyle brands to help them improve their search visibility. I run ongoing fully managed campaigns, one-off audits and ad hoc consultancy. I’m also looking to run SEO training sessions for bloggers. So, if it’s of interest, let me know or check out my SEO ebook for small businesses and bloggers.
What camera do you use?
I used to rely on my trusty Sony RX100 but recently I invested in the Sony A7 camera. Photos are from a whole range of different cameras – either my iPhone, Sony RX100 or my Sony A7, as well as the various cameras used by friends, photographers and anyone else I’ve roped into taking pictures!
Do you use affiliate links on your site?
Yes, there are affiliate links on my site – this means that if you click on a product I’ve featured on my blog and you purchase it, I get a tiny bit of commission. It doesn’t cost you any extra to purchase through an affiliate link, it just means I get a kickback from the retailer. It’s essentially a ‘thank you’ for marketing and advertising their products.
I only earn a very small amount from these affiliate links but it helps to cover the running costs of my blog – from web design through to hosting and security. I will only ever share products and services that I think my readers will love.
