For our summer holiday this year, James and I decided to stay in the UK with Unique Home Stays and to keep all our fingers and toes crossed that the English rain would stay away.
The Falcon Inn
We set off on the long drive to Cornwall where we were staying just around the corner from Newquay. Before checking in to our little abode we had a pitstop lunch at The Falcon Inn, a quaint haven covered in wisteria and exuding charm.
James opted for a sandwich of homecured salt beef brisket, dill pickle, rocket and mustard mayonnaise while I chose the hake and salmon fish cakes served with a sweet chilli sauce and dressed salad leaves.
Unique Home Stays
After filling our bellies and soaking up the rays of sunshine, we continued onto our home for the next four nights. We stayed in a quirky but luxurious self-catering wagon called Sundance that we booked through Unique Home Stays.
It was much bigger than we had imagined, consisting of three good sized rooms, a little courtyard out the back and a large veranda complete with outdoor sofa and rocking chairs. All of this set in a colourful and well maintained garden.
Sundance is presented as a Wild West retreat and there is an impressive attention to detail that really makes you feel as though you’re starring in your own Western movie.
I particularly loved the abundance of Wild West decor that enhanced the hideaway both inside and out. It really gave a sense of the thought and imagination that had gone into designing it.
On arrival we were greeted with a welcome hamper complete with Prosecco and a range of tasty local products. We were also provided with all the essentials (milk, butter, etc.) plus some wonderful homemade scones.
So naturally we made some tea and indulged in the scones out on the veranda.
After tea we popped out to get some dinner supplies from the local supermarket. On return, I donned a cowboy hat to better fit in with my surroundings.
While James manned the BBQ I headed inside to prepare some of the food where I was caught red-handed stuffing my face with Pringles…
Once ready, we poured some wine and tucked into our BBQ.
After dark we headed inside where I relaxed in a nice hot bath before hopping into bed.
I’d highly recommend Unique Home Stays if you’re looking for a staycation, or alternatively if you’re coming over to the UK for a holiday. The quality of the accommodation is top notch and they’re all super friendly to ensure you have the best time.
