10 Amazing Things To Do in Livingstone, Zambia
Several months ago, I had the opportunity to visit the stunning area of Livingstone in Zambia. It was an experience unlike any other, filled with breathtaking landscapes, vibrant culture, and exhilarating activities.
As someone who has travelled extensively, this is a big statement but I consider my Zambia trip to be my favourite trip to date.
Here are the top 10 things to do in Livingstone to make the most out of your visit to this incredible part of Zambia.

1. Swim in the Devil’s Pool
The Devil’s Pool is situated right at the edge of Victoria Falls, one of the world’s largest waterfalls with a drop of over 108 metres (354 feet).
Swimming in the Devil’s Pool is no easy feat and can be quite dangerous to those who aren’t confident with their swimming abilities.

But if you do make it to the pool, you get an up-close-and-personal view of the mighty falls as the roaring water plunges down beside you, with only the natural rock barrier preventing you from going over the edge.
If that doesn’t get your adrenaline pumping, I don’t know what will!
If you want to take a picture at the edge of the Devil’s Pool, two guides will hold onto your legs to prevent you from being swept away while another guide takes the shot.
Hands down one of the most insane experiences I’ve ever had, and one of the most exciting. Totally recommend it if you’re looking for an adrenaline rush!

2. Take a helicopter ride over Victoria Falls
Located between the borders of Zambia and Zimbabwe, Victoria Falls attracts thousands of visitors looking to witness its breathtaking beauty.
But since it’s so massive, with a combined width of around 1,700 metres (5,600 feet), most only get to witness a part of the falls from various viewpoints.
The solution? Taking a helicopter ride over Victoria Falls!

The helicopter ride lasts between 12 to 15 minutes and gives you a bird’s eye view of Victoria Falls, Batoka Gorge, Zambezi River, and the Zambezi National Park.
If you’re lucky, you may even spot wildlife like giraffes, zebras, and elephants in their natural habitat from high up in the sky!
3. Board the Royal Livingstone Express
The Royal Livingstone Express is a steam engine ride that takes you to some of Zambia’s most gorgeous scenery.
Along the way, you get to enjoy fine dining with drinks and a four to five-course dinner.

The train passes by Victoria Falls Bridge and stops for a moment so you can marvel at the magnificent waterfalls as the world bathes in the golden hues of the sunset.
On the way back, you’ll likely encounter several herbivores in their natural habitats, such as impalas and elephants.
4. Join a guided tour of Victoria Falls
To really make the most of your time at Victoria Falls, I recommend booking a guided tour.
You’ll walk through the lush Victoria Falls rainforest, surrounded by vibrant local flora and fauna, and enjoy breathtaking views of the cascading waterfalls from various viewpoints.

If you plan to take pictures of the waterfalls, bring a good waterproof cover for your camera as the mist can quickly drench your equipment!
I also recommend bringing mosquito repellent because the rainforest is filled with mosquitoes, especially in the warmer months.
5. Go zip-lining and bungee jumping
You can do a number of adrenaline-pumping activities at Victoria Falls, including zip-lining and bungee jumping!

I opted for the zipline and I’d highly recommend it.You’ll get incredible views of the gorge and the Zambezi River below as you soar across the canyon.
If you really want to put your fearlessness to the test, bungee jump from the Victoria Falls Bridge – 111 metres above the Zambezi River!
6. Go on a Safari
Livingstone is known for its diverse wildlife, making it an ideal destination for nature lovers.

The safari takes you through the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, where you’ll encounter animals like elephants, zebras, hippos, giraffes, rhinos, and many more.
During our safari, we took a bush walk to get a closer look at the white rhinos.

Such an incredible experience – seeing all these animals in their natural habitat is like stepping into a whole new world.
7. Set Sail on a Zambezi sunset boat cruise
Taking a Zambezi Sunset Boat Cruise is an excellent way to wind down after an adventure-filled day.
We set off from the Radisson Blu Resort Mosi-oa-Tunya, where we were staying.
The cruise lasts around two hours and, depending on the package you choose, comes with finger foods and drinks or a four-course dinner meal.

As you glide along the Zambezi River, you’ll have the chance to spot a variety of wildlife including hippos, crocodiles, and elephants.
You’ll also encounter dozens of birdlife either chilling by the river bank or flying above your head, like herons, kingfishers, and the majestic African Fish Eagle.
8. Challenge yourself with white water rafting
White Water Rafting is another thrilling activity that will get your adrenaline pumping.
You’ll ride in the Zambezi River, featuring deep channels, class 3 to 5 rapids threaded with serene pools, and high water volumes.
Between intense sections, you’ll have moments to catch your breath and take in the stunning scenery that surrounds you – towering cliffs, lush vegetation, and the distant roar of Victoria Falls.
9. Visit Mukuni Village
Founded in the 13th century, the Mukuni Village is an African settlement that embraces the rich cultural heritage of the Leya people.
The village is a short distance away from Victoria Falls and about a 10 to 15-minute drive from most hotels in Livingstone.

Mukuni is home to around 7,000 people. The village chief and the people are super friendly and accommodating to tourists, especially the kids who would wave their arms to greet newcomers.
A member of the village will show you around and even let you enter some of the huts so you can see their interior.
You’ll also witness traditional performances as part of the experience, where villagers showcase their cultural heritage through music, dance, and colourful costumes.
10. Explore the Livingstone Museum
Livingstone Museum is the largest and oldest museum in Zambia. It contains hundreds of centuries-old artefacts, fossils, and exhibits that tell the story of Zambia’s history.
You’ll learn about David Livingstone, the explorer the town was named after, as well as the ancient tools, masks, and jewellery that were once worn by the Zambian people.
The museum is pretty big and takes around three hours to fully explore.
Where to stay in Livingstone
We stayed at the impeccable Radisson Blu Resort Mosi-oa-Tunya and I’d highly recommend it.

Situated right on the shores of the Zambezi River, the location is unparalleled. Plus, as you’d expect from a Radisson hotel, all the facilities were incredible – from the pools to the spa.
