5 beautiful hotels in Castle Combe

The Manor House Hotel

Staying in Castle Combe is like staying in a fairy tale and I highly recommend it if you’re in the area. That said, being such a small village, there aren’t many hotels in Castle Combe itself.

Nonetheless, if staying ‘in’ the postcard is what you want (and I don’t blame you!) then you have two wonderful hotels to choose from.

For me, the benefit of staying in Castle Combe itself is that you get to see the village before all the other tourists descend.

It’s a magical Cotswolds village at any time of day, but even more so in the quiet hours of the early morning.

Below I share the two best hotels in Castle Combe, as well as a selection of options nearby.

Hotels in Castle Combe

1. The Manor House

Address: West St, Castle Combe, Chippenham SN14 7HX

Best for: A luxury experience

The Manor House Hotel in Castle Combe

The Manor House is often dubbed the Castle Combe hotel. It’s a luxury hotel boasting a Michelin star restaurant, excellent golf course, and beautiful rooms.

Staying at The Manor House Hotel in Castle Combe is akin to stepping back in time while retaining all the luxuries of the modern age.

I stayed in the hotel itself, but you can also stay in one of the quaint cottages within the grounds.

Manor House Cottages

This historic hotel oozes charm and character with its gothic architecture, antique furnishings, and sprawling gardens.

The rooms are a blend of traditional English elegance and contemporary comforts, ensuring a restful night’s sleep.

The Manor House Hotel

It’s a true 14th century manor house and you should expect old world charm mixed with contemporary elegance and service.

Insider travel tip: Just a one minute walk from the village itself, staying at The Manor House means you can explore when no one else is around and experience the village in all its quaint, old-world charm.

2. The Castle Inn

Address: West St, Castle Combe, Chippenham SN14 7HN

Best for: A cosy setting

Another Castle Combe hotel is The Castle Inn. This is such a cosy place to stay, within the walls of a thoughtfully restored 12th century inn.

Expect comfort and original details in this comforting setting.

It’s actually owned by the same group as The Manor House (Exclusive Collection), so you can expect the same level of standards and character.

You’ll find 12 beautifully appointed ensuite rooms, each blending historic charm with modern comfort and relaxing colour palettes.

In the morning, you can enjoy a hearty breakfast in the rustic dining room.

Make sure you allow time to unwind by the open fire in the snug bar, while surrounded by historic sloping walls and exposed beams.

Being right in the village itself, The Castle Inn’s location is perfect for exploring Castle Combe – and getting those people-free early morning snaps!

Best for: A sumptuous spa

Distance to Castle Combe: 10 minute drive

Lucknam Park Hotel Cotswolds

Just a short drive from Castle Combe, Lucknam Hotel & Spa offers a luxurious escape and is one of my favourite hotels in the Cotswolds.

Set within 500 acres of beautiful parkland, this five-star country house hotel combines elegant Georgian architecture with contemporary amenities.

The rooms and suites are individually designed, each offering unique charm and the very best of country house living.

Lucknam Park Spa

For me, the best bit is the award-winning spa, which features an indoor pool, thermal cabins, and a range of rejuvenating treatments.

For dining, the hotel’s Michelin-starred restaurant serves exquisite dishes for a truly indulgent treat.

4. Whatley Manor

Address: Easton Grey, Malmesbury SN16 0RB

Best for: Michelin star cuisine

Distance to Castle Combe: 20 minute drive

Whatley-Manor

For another luxury countryside retreat, I know you’ll love the charming Whatley Manor.

While it’s a little further out from Castle Combe, with a 20 minute drive, it’s well worth those extra miles for this five-star hotel.

Set in 12 acres of gorgeous gardens, Whatley Manor offers a perfect blend of traditional elegance and modern comfort.

The highlight of staying at Whatley Manor is the food. The Dining Room boasts an impressive two Michelin stars,  serving up creative dishes made from locally sourced ingredients.

For an alternative to fine dining, Grey’s Brasserie provides a more relaxed – but still delicious – dining option.

Whatley-Manor spa

The Aquarias Spa is also a standout feature, with a hydrotherapy pool, thermal experiences, and a range of personalised treatments designed to help you unwind and rejuvenate.

5. The Crown Inn at Tolldown

Address: Toll Down Way, Dyrham, Chippenham SN14 8HZ

Best for: A pub with rooms

Distance to Castle Combe: 20 minute drive

The Crown Inn at Tolldown is a delightful 17th-century inn situated about a 20 minute drive from Castle Combe.

If historic charm and a cosy atmosphere is more your scene then I know you’ll love this family-run inn.

There are 12 comfortable rooms here, each thoughtfully decorated with modern amenities to ensure a comfortable stay.

Known for its excellent pub food, The Crown Inn serves up traditional British dishes made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients.

Enjoy a hearty meal by the fireplace in the bar or dine in the charming restaurant area. The inn’s friendly service and homely feel make it a favourite among visitors.

Being in the south of the Cotswolds, it’s conveniently located for exploring both the Cotswolds and the nearby city of Bath.
