6 Most Romantic Hotels in the Cotswolds for Couples
The Cotswolds is the enchanted heart of England. It’s a fairytale-like region that spans about 500,000 acres, across five counties: Gloucestershire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Oxfordshire, and Wiltshire.
There are about 150 quaint little villages in the five counties, with swoon-worthy romantic destinations.
I think the Cotswolds is one of the best UK destinations for a romantic getaway. In this guide, I share my hand-picked selection of the most romantic hotels in the Cotswolds for couples.

1. The Fish Hotel
Have you ever stayed in a luxurious treehouse surrounded by verdant hills? The Fish Hotel can give you just that.
The hotel’s unique layout and quirky accommodations offer couples several choices for a novel experience.
Besides the treehouses, you can also try the shepherd’s huts, hilly huts, and hideaway huts.
Those cosy cabins come with gorgeous decor and tons of little luxuries. The most romantic parts of the rooms at The Fish are the outdoor hot tubs and bath tubs.
I’ll be totally honest – I actually stayed at The Fish on a solo trip but I distinctly remember thinking how romantic it would be with a partner!
When it comes to dining, I wholeheartedly recommend the Fish’s in-house restaurant, the Hook. They serve up seafood, and various delectable dishes in a stylish, but relaxed, setting.
2. Wild Thyme and Honey
This boutique hotel is perfect for a romantic escape. The Wild Thyme and Honey is housed in a meticulously renovated 16th-century pub.
The interiors are a masterclass in elegance and warmth.
You’ll love the cosy nooks and crannies scattered throughout the property. They’re ideal for curling up and enjoying a quiet moment together.
There are 24 beautiful rooms in the hotel, but my favourite is the No 3 London Road Suite.
It has a private deck overlooking the river, a hot tub, and a sauna, plus a super comfy king-sized four-poster bed for a dee
The food is just as impressive as the accommodation, with The Crown at Ampney Brook providing a table by the fireplace, and delish locally sourced food.
3. The Lamb Inn
Tucked away in the scenic village of Burford, Oxfordshire, The Lamb Inn is a haven of romance and tranquillity.
It’s perfect for a laid-back holiday just for two, but if you have a dog, your little furry friend is welcome too.
Back in the 15th century, this chic boutique was a weaver’s cottage. It was later transformed into a modern luxury hotel.
It never lost its history or character though, and you can easily see that in the flagstone floors, the exposed beams, and the crackling fires.
My special recommendation is to book the Rosie Suite. It’s beautifully decorated in florals, and it has a private entrance and a private garden.
It also has an en-suite bathroom, which is so in tune with the hideaway vibe.
4. Dormy House Hotel
From afar, it’s hard to imagine what a Scandie-meets-Cotswolds would look like.
However, as soon as you get inside The Dormy House Hotel in Broadway, you realise the beauty of that stylish contemporary-vintage fusion.
There’s a nice variety of rooms and suites at the 17th-century boutique hotel.
Then again, for the ultimate indulgence I recommend booking a Hot Tub Suite. It has a private lounge with outdoor wooden tubs.
Your holiday won’t be complete without dining at The Back Garden. Their menu is sensational and the presentation is quite inventive.
You don’t want to miss The House Spa, where you spend a few hours of total bliss, and come out feeling fabulous.
By the end of the day, enjoy a cold beverage on the terrace, take in the picturesque surroundings, lose yourself in the constellations above, and create the perfect romantic mood.
5. Lucknam Park
Set in 500 acres of the finest parkland, the Lucknam Park Hotel is the epitome of countryside luxury.
As you approach the Palladian Mansion, you’ll be greeted with regal beech and lime trees lining the driveway. It’s exactly like stepping into a Jane Austen novel.
The rooms, suites, and cottages at Lucknam are nothing short of spectacular. Each room is individually designed, so you can savour countryside living in every way.
The Classic Rooms and Grand Master Suite are incredible, but for a divine experience, book one of the stone-built Grand Cottages.
There are plenty of dining options at Lucknam, from the romantic serenity of the Walled Garden Restaurant to the Michelin-starred Restaurant Hywel Jones.
There are also private dining rooms, for an unforgettable candlelit dinner.
6. Thyme
Last but definitely not least on our list of the Cotswolds’ romantic retreats is Thyme.
It wouldn’t be fair to call it just a hotel, as it’s more of a village within a village located in the scenic hamlet of Southrop.
Staying at the Thyme is an immersive unique experience that celebrates the best of country living.
The estate consists of an assortment of restored barns, farmhouses, and cottages. All surrounded by 150 acres of untouched farmland.
There’s a wide variety of accommodation options, so you can book a cosy room at the lodge or reserve an entire cottage for that extra bit of privacy.
Either way, you’ll get picturesque views, four poster beds, and if you stay at the Divine Suite, a private terrace.
The in-house dining options are irresistible. The Swan is my absolute favourite, with its roaring fires and vintage furniture that looks like a cultural collage.
The Ox is another culinary option, and it has it all, the ambience, fine architecture, and satisfying tastes.
You should also take the time to plunge into the springwater swimming pool, then head to the Orchid House for a light lunch.
Not a single spot at the Thyme is like anything you’ve seen before. It’s the perfect place to create everlasting memories with your special person.
