10 best hotels in Zermatt

1. The Omnia

Address: Auf dem Fels, 3920 Zermatt

Best for: Exceptional views

The Omnia Luxury Hotel in Zermatt

I love that simply arriving at this five star hotel in Zermatt is a memorable experience. Where else would you stay in a building perched on a rock, in a commanding position around 45 metres above the resort centre?

The location means you need to enter the property via a rocky tunnel, before taking the lift to the hotel lobby.

OMNIA Pool

The Omnia has a wealth of impressive amenities to offer guests. There’s a deluxe spa where I think the indoor/outdoor pool is a jaw-dropping highlight.

Guests can also indulge in the fine dining restaurant or relax in the lounge bar with a roaring fireplace. All rooms are contemporary and elegant in style, and come with private balconies.

Ski areas can be reached via a 15 minute walk, or by electric vehicle.

2. Hotel Bellerive

Address: Riedstrasse 3, 3920 Zermatt

Best for: A modern Swiss chalet

Hotel Bellerive Zermatt Sky Room

For a centrally situated four star property offering modern Zermatt accommodation, I’d recommend Hotel Bellerive.

From the exterior, it looks like a contemporary take on the traditional Swiss chalet, with balconies and lots of windows to let in natural light. There are Matterhorn views from upper floor rooms.

Hotel Bellerive Zermatt Wellness Whirlpool

This hotel offers complimentary use of the spa area to guests, and serves breakfast daily to set you up for an active day on the slopes.

Ski storage is supplied, and passes can be obtained from the hotel. There is a bar for apres-ski, and room service is also offered.

Matterhorn Focus Suite Zermatt

Matterhorn Focus is a smart design hotel in Zermatt – so if you’re a fan of interior design, I’d really recommend booking into this hotel. Guests staying here can benefit from being able to ski door-to-door.

Heinz Julen is the Swiss name behind the impeccable interior decor here, and most rooms offer views of the mighty Matterhorn.

Matterhorn Focus Pool

This property offers a deluxe spa, rooms with Nespresso machines and flatscreen TVs, and some accommodation with balconies.

Like The Omnia, the hotel can be reached via a tunnel. This one leads from the Klein Matterhorn valley cable car station.

Beausite Zermatt Hotel

BEAUSiTE Zermatt also enjoys an elevated position above the car-free Swiss resort of Zermatt.

This is a four star property occupying an elegant building in a central location. The Sunnegga cable car station is under 200 metres away.

At this Zermatt luxury hotel, I know you’ll love the lavish spa complete with heated indoor swimming pool and whirlpools, an outdoor infinity pool and a sauna that comes with views of the Matterhorn.

Swiss and international cuisine is served at the innovative restaurant. At breakfast each day, I love that guests can see their food being prepared at the live cooking station.

Some accommodation comes with Matterhorn views, while ski storage and passes can also be supplied on site.

5. Hotel Monte Rosa

Address: Bahnhofstrasse 80, 3920 Zermatt

Best for: Local history

Monte Rosa Hotel in Zermatt

This boutique property is the most historic in Zermatt, and I love that it dates back to when the area was first developed as a ski resort.

For this reason, Hotel Monte Rosa is right at the heart of the village, and only around 400 metres from the train station.

Hotel Monte Rosa Bedroom

The classic and the contemporary blend seamlessly at this charming property. Rooms ooze sophistication, and for more space you can book one of the larger suites.

All guests enjoy complimentary access to the spa, and can also use the pool at the nearby Mont Cervin Palace on the same basis.

CERVO Mountain Resort Zermatt

CERVO Mountain Resort comprises seven snow-dusted Swiss chalets set among the spindly evergreen trees of Zermatt.

This property is still only a 10 minute walk from the train station. Trust me when I say that it’s well worth the effort, for the feeling of complete peace plus the exceptional facilities here.

CERVO has a trio of restaurants, as well as a spa and wellness area in each of the seven separate units. Each also has a relaxation room with an open fire.

Mont Cervin Palace Zermatt Suite

This five star Alpine hotel belongs to the prestigious Leading Hotels of the World group. It’s also a historic property, dating back to 1851.

A key feature of this hotel is the 1,700 square metre spa and wellness area, which I think is a real highlight of staying here.

Mont Cervin Palace Pool

Mont Cervin Palace offers a range of guest rooms, many of which are south-facing, which I love. These have a private balcony or terrace overlooking the Matterhorn.

Some of the more luxurious suites also come with a fireplace or a hot tub – perfect for unwinding after a day on the slopes.

The hotel boasts several exceptional dining and drinking options and a couple of inviting swimming pools.

I’d recommend booking with ASMALLWORLD for VIP benefits like free room upgrades and late checkouts where available.

9. Unique Hotel Post

Like other hotels in Zermatt it has a spa with a hot tub, sauna and steam bath. Some rooms come with views of the famous mountain.

Unique Hotel Post Zermatt

There are three restaurants and bars at Unique Hotel Post, and the property offers transfers between the hotel and the train station, heliport and taxi rank. The closest ski lift is about 500 metres away.

At Unique Hotel Post, friends of mine who’ve stayed here have praised the entertainment, the breakfast and the location in particular.

10 best chalets & apartments in Zermatt

1. Chalet Altesse

Address: Obere Tuftra 10, Zermatt

Best for: Matterhorn views

Altesse Chalet in Zermatt View

If you’d prefer to stay in a Zermatt chalet, the first option I’d recommend is Chalet Altesse.

This sleek building offers premium accommodation with ski-in and ski-out access, and is situated near the Klein Matterhorn cable car station.

Chalet Altesse Zermatt

All apartments here offer Matterhorn views from a private balcony or terrace. The chalet also offers spa facilities, including a steam bath and a Finnish sauna.

This is a stylish property constructed from wood and stone. It’s conveniently close to a grocer’s, a playground and a bus stop.

2. La Vue – Zermatt Luxury Living Apartments

Address: Metzgergasse 64, 3920 Zermatt

Best for: Village views

Another option I’d recommend for those seeking a luxury chalet in Zermatt is La Vue. Sat above the resort, this is ideally placed for views over both the village and the Swiss mountains.

As there are just six apartments, this property has an intimate and exclusive feel. You can book an apartment with two, three or five bedrooms, which is perfect for families or groups.

The complex has a spa zone, and services such as grocery deliveries and massages can be arranged. Inside you’ll find up-to-the-minute accommodation with an iPad, Apple TV and a blu-ray player.

There’s also a shared garden with a sun terrace and a guest lounge.

3. Chalet Banja

Address: Schluhmattstrasse 206, 3920 Zermatt

Chalet Banja can be found in the Winkelmatten area. I’d recommend this Zermatt chalet for larger groups or families, as up to eight can be accommodated in comfort.

The Furi Ski LIft is only around 300 metres away.

Chalet Banja Pool

Each bedroom here has an ensuite, and there is both ski storage and a sunny terrace.

The chalet also comes with a fully equipped kitchen and dining area for self catering, plus use of a pool and sauna.

4. Alex Lodge Private Luxury Apartments

Address: Wiestibodenweg 45, 3920 Zermatt

Best for: Modern luxury

Looking every inch the traditional Swiss chalet, I love that Alex Lodge is one of the chalets in Zermatt offering Matterhorn panoramas from every apartment.

Each has a surround sound system, a sizeable lounge with a fireplace and an iPod dock. Alex Lodge Private Luxury Apartments are 10 minutes by local bus from Zermatt’s ski area.

Guests staying here also have a wellness area to share, with a sauna, steam bath and hot tub.

5. Chalet Nepomuk

Address: Am Stalden 35, 3920 Zermatt

Chalet Nepomuk in the Winkelmatten area of Zermatt offers a range of three and four bedroom apartments for up to a dozen guests. As all have doubles, it’s ideal for a number of couples sharing.

I love that Chalet Nepomuk has a heated outdoor swimming pool, and is located under a mile from central Zermatt. Each apartment is kitted out with hardwood flooring, a video gaming system and a fireplace.

6. Casa Della Luce Apartments

Address: Wiestistrasse 8, 3920 Zermatt

Best for: Picture-perfect accommodation

With dark wood contrasting against white exterior walls, I think Casa Della Luce is surely one of the most photogenic ski chalets in Zermatt.

Though the train station is only 10 minutes away on foot, this position is both peaceful and picture perfect.

The Sunnegga Paradise ski area is only five minutes from the front door, and there are plenty of eateries, apres-ski bars and shops within easy reach.

There are shared spa facilities here too, including a sauna and steam and jacuzzi baths.

7. Chalet A La Casa

Address: Vispastrasse 152, Zermatt

Best for: Small groups

Chalet a la Casa is idyllically situated on a south-facing slope on the edge of the resort. There are views of the Matterhorn and the resort from the property.

During winter, guests can ski right up to the front door when staying here, which is always a bonus in my books.

The accommodation options are a studio for two or a chalet. The latter has its own sauna, and has eight single beds in total.

Kitchens, a terrace or balcony and WiFi throughout come with both units.

8. Hörnligrat Apartments

Best for: Spacious living

Hörnligrat Apartments

Hörnligrat Apartments – or Haus Hörnligrat – is under 10 minutes’ walk from the train station and offers a modern take on traditional Alpine style.

Hotel Welschen is connected to the complex, so guests can enjoy breakfast here if desired.

Hörnligrat Apartments Zermatt

Chalet Gemini Hot Tub

Inside this chalet you’ll find luxury accommodation with cosy sofas, a wood burning stove, a generously-sized dining area and five bedrooms.

Chalet Gemini can be booked through Mountain Exposure.

10. Backstage Loft & Apartments

Address: Bachstrasse 110, 3920 Zermatt

Best for: The best of both worlds

Backstage Loft in Zermatt provides ultra contemporary accommodation. It’s run by the same people behind the Backstage Hotel, so guests can benefit from services such as a concierge, fine dining and more.

I love how the loft cleverly and successfully combines a historic farmhouse with modern style. It’s like stepping into an upscale interiors magazine set!

Guests here get the best of both worlds, with hotel facilities and plush, spacious accommodation with five en suite double rooms.
