1. Hotel The Serras

Address: Passeig de Colom, 9, 08002 Barcelona

Best for: Picasso fans

Hotel The Serras

This isn’t only one of the finest five star hotels in Barcelona – it’s also home to a relaxed restaurant run by a Michelin-starred chef.

The Serras lies within the city’s Gothic Quarter and boasts panoramic views over the Mediterranean from the rooftop terrace and infinity pool.

Hotel The Serras Room

With only 28 deluxe rooms and suites, the hotel has an exclusive and intimate feel that I think is absolutely ideal for a romantic break.

Like the hotel, service is attentive yet laid-back. The historic building it occupies was once home to Picasso’s studio.

2. Seventy Barcelona

Address: Calle de Còrsega, 344, 352, 08037 Barcelona

Best for: A leafy location

Seventy Barcelona is a larger, four star hotel with almost 150 rooms and suites plus a spa and a great hall.

This property is positioned on a leafy avenue lined with upmarket stores. It offers a range of rooms with Nespresso machines, smart TVs and in some cases, furnished terraces.

In addition to the spa, Seventy offers a cocktail bar, a Mediterranean restaurant, a lounge bar, a rooftop pool and a gym.

I love that the style is slick and contemporary throughout, and the hotel is close to the famous Passeig de Gracia.

3. The One Barcelona

Address: Calle de Provença, 277, 08037 Barcelona

Best for: Indoor and outdoor pools

The One Suite

The One is set among the Modernist architecture of Barcelona’s L’Eixample neighbourhood.

This hotel also boasts a smart rooftop terrace with a plunge pool, where I’d recommend whiling away a few hours soaking up the atmosphere. Inside you’ll also find an indoor swimming pool.

I’d recommend this Barcelona hotel if you value facilities such as 24-hour room service and gym, a refined spa, and a bar and restaurant.

Some of the most swish rooms here include a private terrace with a hot tub or views over the cathedral, which I’d definitely recommend booking if you can.

4. Alma Barcelona

Address: Calle de Mallorca, 269, 08008 Barcelona

Best for: An upmarket district

Hotel Alma Bedroom

Alma Barcelona is situated in an upscale district where you’ll find plenty of stylish restaurants, bars and shops.

Diagonal metro station is also under five minutes away on foot, which is ideal for getting around the city.

Hotel Alma Spa

There’s a wealth of amenities for guests at Alma Barcelona to enjoy, including a sumptuous spa, a refined restaurant and an outdoor garden bar.

For superb city views from your private outdoor terrace, I recommend booking the penthouse suite.

5. Mercer Hotel Barcelona

Address: Calle dels Lledó, 7, 08002 Barcelona

Mercer Hotel Barcelona

Mercer Hotel is situated within the city’s historic Barri Gòtic. I love that the building is packed with character features such as exposed stonework and wooden beams.

Some rooms come with an attached balcony. Mercer Hotel offers a range of en-suite rooms with rainfall showers, deluxe toiletries, and flatscreen TVs, while suites offer additional living space.

The hotel also has facilities conducive to outdoor living, including a garden with a terrace and an outdoor pool. A smart restaurant completes the picture.

Hotel ME in Barcelona

In my opinion, ME Barcelona is a seriously stylish hotel for those who come to Barcelona to experience the city’s outstanding arts and cultural scene.

This fashionable hotel offers five star service and amenities, and demonstrates a commitment to the environment via its sustainability programme.

ME Barcelona

Merely a five minute walk from La Rambla, this Barcelona hotel offers a furnished rooftop terrace with a pool, a spa, a Mediterranean eatery and a gym.

The decor throughout is slick and minimal to make the most of the light-filled spaces.

7. Hotel Brummell

Address: Carrer Nou de la Rambla, 174, 08004 Barcelona

Best for: A bargain break

Hotel Brummell Hotel in Barcelona

I’d recommend this hotel as the best place to stay in Barcelona if you prefer smaller, more intimate properties.

Hotel Brummell offers just 20 boutique-style rooms, yet also has a spa, a restaurant  and a swimming pool.

Hotel Brummell Barcelona

The hotel is also close to the port, and the green space at Parc de la Primavera. Depending on the season, I think the room rates here can be a steal.

So don’t delay if you want to snap up a great value five star stay.

8. Yurbban Passage Hotel & Spa

Address: Calle de Trafalgar, 26, 08010 Barcelona

Best for: An up-and-coming locale

Yurbban Passage

Yurbban Passage Hotel is located north of Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter, in the heart of the up-and-coming Trafalgar Street area.

The former textile warehouse dates from the late 19th century and has been transformed into a modern hotel with a spa, a rooftop pool and terrace, and a restaurant and bar.

Yurbban Passage Hotel Barcelona

Guests staying at this hotel often walk everywhere, or you can borrow bikes from the property.

For me, the highlight is the wine and cheese hour held daily, where you can mingle with staff and other guests.

9. The Corner Hotel

Address: Calle de Mallorca, 178, 08036 Barcelona

Best for: Those exploring by car

The Corner Hotel Bedroom

The Corner Hotel is centrally located in the L’Eixample neighbourhood. This property occupies one of the city’s most commanding spots.

The distinctive red painted frontage means you’ll certainly never forget where you stayed.

The Corner Hotel

Rare among hotels in Barcelona is the fact that this one provides private parking spaces, which is ideal if you plan on driving around Spain.

The hotel also offers a restaurant, a bar and a swimming pool, and I love the sleek design of the interiors.

10. The Wittmore

Address: Carrer de Riudarenes, 7, 08002 Barcelona

Best for: A secret spot

The Wittmore

The Wittmore is among the most ideally situated luxury hotels in Barcelona. It can be found within the Barri Gòtic and close to the Spanish coastline.

Yet the fact that it’s positioned on a peaceful side street means guests can enjoy the best of both worlds.

Wittmore Hotel Bedroom

For me, the highlights of this hotel are the courtyard with a terrace and the rooftop deck offering superb city views.

Rooms come with grand marble bathrooms, and I think that the tucked-away location adds to the feeling of staying somewhere that’s both very special and a well-kept secret.

11. Kimpton Vividora Barcelona

Address: Carrer del Duc, 15, 08002 Barcelona

Best for: A boho vibe

Kimpton Vividora Barcelona

I love that Kimpton Vividora Barcelona has a slightly more boho feel than other Barcelona boltholes. Pops of colour liven up the city view deck with cosy seating and potted palms.

Muted shades of orange and blue are found throughout – from the bathrobes to a section of wall tiling.

Kimpton Hotel Rooftop

La Rambla is just a minute’s walk from this property, so it’s easy to see all the city sights on foot.

The hotel also offers a cafe, a Mediterranean restaurant and a bar with a terrace. All accommodation comes with yoga mats, minibars and Smart TVs.

Kimpton Vividora is also home to one of the best rooftop bars in Barcelona.

12. El Palace Hotel Barcelona

Address: Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, 668, 08010 Barcelona

Best for: A sociable stay

El Palace Hotel Barcelona Suite

I’d recommend El Palace in Barcelona as a great base for those seeking a sociable atmosphere.

The hotel has a rooftop terrace, and live music serenades guests as they unwind with a drink or chat to other guests.

El Palace Hotel Barcelona

El Palace also occupies one of the grandest positions in the city, on a corner site in L’Eixample.

The hotel has a decadent spa, a cocktail bar and a couple of restaurants; one of which has a roof terrace for sweeping city views while dining.

13. Monument Hotel

Address: Passeig de Gràcia, 75, 08008 Barcelona

Best for: An unparalleled location

Monument Hall

In my opinion, there’s arguably no finer address in Barcelona than Passeig de Gràcia – and Monument Hotel can be found right here in the heart of the city.

With character features throughout, I think this late 19th century mansion is ideal for those who appreciate the likes of polished parquet flooring and exposed brickwork.

Monument Hotel Pool

This impressive hotel also offers a rooftop pool, a cocktail bar, restaurants, a gym and a spa.

Rooms come with amenities like underfloor heating in the bathrooms, fitted stereos and flatscreen TVs to ensure an enjoyable and comfortable stay.

14. Hotel Neri

Address: Carrer de Sant Sever, 5, 08002 Barcelona

Best for: History fans

Neri Hotel Bedroom

Hotel Neri belongs to the respected Relais and Chateaux hotel group and occupies a pair of buildings in Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter – my favourite area of the city.

The property has some delightful features, including a restaurant with original stone arches, a library, a rooftop terrace and a luxurious lounge bar.

This hotel pitches itself as the most unique in the city, and the sweeping staircase and ancient courtyard make it difficult to disagree.

One of the buildings was a mediaeval palace dating from the 1100s, and the sgraffito wall decor has lately been uncovered.

Plus, there is a selection of bars and restaurants offering al fresco and Peruvian style dining, as well as tapas plates for sharing and sampling Spanish specialities.

When it comes to luxury hotels in any city, you can’t go wrong with the Mandarin Oriental brand in my opinion.

17. Casa Bonay

Address: Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, 700, 08010 Barcelona

Best for: A laid-back ambience

Casa Bonay Hotel

A neoclassical structure in L’Eixample is home to Casa Bonay, a hip four star hotel focusing on wellness and boutique-style luxury.

There are two restaurants, a rooftop terrace and an on-site juice and coffee bar here.

Casa Bonay Barcelona

The building dates from 1869 and some rooms still retain the original mosaic flooring. Some have private outdoor terraces or balconies, which I’d definitely recommend booking if you can.

I love the laid-back vibe that makes this a great place to fully relax. You can also enjoy Malin+Goetz toiletries, spacious outdoor areas and the Bodega Bonay restaurant.

18. Barcelona Edition
