Autumn is in full swing and we’re already rocketing towards winter. Christmas is inching closer (yes, I said the ‘C’ word), it’s dark by 4.30pm and people are starting to don scarves and wooly hats. Not that you need an excuse to treat yourself but just in case you do – let’s be honest, it’s getting kinda chilly outside.
Whether you’re looking for a new winter coat to add to your collection, or you’re trying desperately to avoid the temptation to buy yet another coat (sorry I’m not helping), you are going to want to browse my roundup. I love a good coat. I’m the coldest person in the world – I once got actual frostbite on a ski holiday in April – so literally any excuse for a new coat and I am there.
Obviously I don’t need anymore coats. I’m starting to hang them in all sorts of strange places in my little flat, due to an overfilled wardrobe and an already straining coat hook. But hey, a girl can dream… and then probably buy a new coat too. From the affordable to the completely unaffordable, here are my favourite winter coats.
1. Kate Faux Fur Cape – Coast
The word ‘cape’ may conjure up images of superheroes and vampires but they can also make wonderfully versatile fashion pieces. My favourite is this Kate Faux Fur Cape from Coast.
I first saw this fluffy delight being worn by Josie from Fashion Mumblr (who is responsible for a constant strain on my purse strings).
Josie makes everything look elegant and beautiful, even a giant furry cape. I probably won’t manage it with quite the same sophistication but I’m going to try.
2. Down jacket – Espirit
If you’ve ever owned a down jacket then you’ll know how delightfully warm they can be. A stark contrast to the furry cape, this down jacket from Espirit is more about practicality (and it looks super cute too). Down jackets are incredibly lightweight but also wonderfully warm.
It’s the perfect option for chilly winter walks and more casual outings where warmth is the priority. Available in a range of colours, although my favourite is, of course, the pink.
As you can see above, I’ve already bought this jacket and I can confirm that it looks fabulous in real life too. Some down jackets can be a bit puffy and unflattering but I love the fact that it is slightly tailored, giving a really nice shape.
3. Grey Collarless Faux Fur Coat – Missguided
Everybody needs at least one fur coat in their winter wardrobe. Ideally twelve. I love this Missguided faux fur coat and it’s available in four different colours, depending on how sassy you feel. My favourite is the grey as it’s subtle and will go with pretty much anything.
Not only will it look great, but it will most certainly keep you warm and toasty. Plus, everyone will want to cuddle you.
4. Kikiie Cashmere-Blend Wrap Front Coat – Ted Baker
From funky fur to cool cashmere, this is the coat you need to add to your work wardrobe. The Kikiie wrap front coat from Ted Baker is elegant and smart but without being overly corporate.
I actually can’t decide which is my favourite colour – maybe the maroon, or the green… or the camel. Sod it, I’d get all of them if I could.
5. Brody Parka – AllSaints
I desperately want a fluffy, oversized parka. I’ve been looking for a long time and I have to say, this AllSaints Brody Parka is by far my favourite so far. I love the grey fur detail against the khaki green, plus it looks super cosy.
Sadly it’s out of my price range so I’ll have to keep hunting. If anyone has found something similar then please shout!
6. Tessa Reversible Shearling Gilet – Reiss
You may be able to tell from this list that I’m a bit of a sucker for furry delights. This Tessa Reversible Shearling Gilet from Reiss is the perfect fluffy addition to your winter wardrobe.
You know what the best thing about it is? It’s reversible. You’re essentially getting two coats for the price of one, it’s genius.
7. The Sandringham Long Heritage Trench Coat – Burberry
Okay so this one’s a bit of a curveball because it’s Burberry and it’s absurdly expensive. However, I’ve always adored their classic trench coats and this Sandringham Trench Coat is no exception. One day I’ll own one of these beauties (keep dreaming Jessie).
Congratulations if you can afford this because you’re doing a lot better than me. In the meantime, join the expensive coat dreamers club (it’s a thing – well it is now).
